5 Indian Female Golfers to look out for in 2016

B.R. Ambedkar said, “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved.” So, it stands true that to check and comment on the progress of golf in India, we need to comment on the women playing golf in the country. Women golfers are slowly and steadily coming to the forefront and it shouldn’t be long before they reach the very top.

Some of the professional female golfers who are noteworthy are as under:

 

Aditi Ashok:

This 18 year from Bangalore is making the nation proud in Women’s golf. The only Indian women in the top 500 of Official Women’s World Ranking (Rolex Ranking), she also holds 57th Rank in the Olympic Rankings on IGFGOLF.org. Aditi turned professional in January 2016 and since has given Indian community enough reasons to be proud of her.

 

Kishi Sinha

This 5’5” girl stands tall with an Official Women’s World Ranking (Rolex Ranking) of 740. She is a member of the Indian golf team and started playing golf when she was just 9 years old.

 

Gauri Monga:

23 year old Gauri is from New Delhi and ranks 843 in the Official Women’s World Ranking (Rolex Ranking). She started playing golf when she was 12. She turned pro in 2014 and also won the title of Rolex Player of the year in 2008 and 2010. Before turning pro in 2014 she ranked #1 on the IGU Ladies Amateur Merit list 2008-09 and 2010-11.

 

Vani Kapoor:

Vani is a 22 year old pro golfer from Delhi. She turned professional in 2012 and ranks 865 according to Official Women’s World Ranking (Rolex Ranking). She was also appointed Thailand’s Golf Ambassador in February this year. Before turning pro Vani was ranked #1 Women Amateur Golfer in India in 2009 and 2011.

 

Sharmila Nicollet:

Sharmila is a 25 Year old Bengaluru girl was the youngest Indian golfer to qualify for the european tour. She  won her first tournament at the age of 14 with a staggering margin of 15 Strokes. She is known for her aggressive rounds of practicing & spends at least 6 hours a day on the course.  She Ranked #1 in 2011 on the WGAI rankings & is ranked 7th in 2016. But this fighter looks ferocious this season & is expected to give other contenders a run for their money

 

Let’s support the women golfers as much as the men. Hopefully there would be many more professional female golfers in India by 2020.
