First Look: TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x Golf Balls

Taylormade TP5 and TP5x balls are one of the most recommended balls when it comes to performance. Let’s figure out why.

Introduction:

Almost everyone talks about the Golf Clubs which can make your game better by having more distance & better shots. But the game also depends on the type of ball you are using. Recently I am hearing more about the TP5 and TP5x balls, so brought these balls for testing and review to help you choose.

Feel:

As the trend shows in company’s tour ball pairings, the version “X” is firmer than the standard. I tested out for this and found out that these balls also follow the rule but the difference is very minute.

The TP5 showed more satisfaction than the “X” Version. The clicking sound it produced is very low pitched and very muted. As some compression balls feel heavy on the putter it didn’t show that effect. I found the sound of TP5x is crisper than TP5, closer to ProV1. But again the difference is very minute, maybe most of the golfers have never found this.

Short Game:

The testing of the balls was started with the short-pitched shots and the received the same results as one would get from a urethane covered tour ball. I tried many different shots such as short pitched shots, half-swing shots, and full wedge shots, the spin was very reliable with any tour ball, I have tested.

I tried my high spinning shots with the Tp5x and interestingly found out that the difference was not that much to boast about. The company claims that both the balls have “highest wedge spin” in their advertising campaigns but with my testing and experience, TP5 is leading.

Long Game:

The difference between the TP5 and TP5x starts with the Irons according to their advertising campaigns. The difference is shown in the spin of the variants. The one with low spin is labeled as TP5 and the one with Mild spin is labeled as TP5x. My tests performed approximately the same. The difference was very minute & not considerable. However for high spin players, the difference can be much more significant.

The company has marked TP5 as longer and TP5 as the longest distance balls. This may be due to the slightly lower spin off the driver. Again the difference was not huge for me-about 150 RPM but I play low spin.

In comparison to other tour balls, nothing lacks in the features of TP5 & TP5. The balls deliver most of the features they boast about, I felt very little discrepancy between what is advertised and what is in actual, and that may also vary from player to player.

Conclusion:

The TP5 and TP5 are as much amazing as the company describes them. Both the balls are amazing, but I am more comfortable with TP5. The thing which matters most it that they perform well throughout the game from tee-box to the green.
