Cricketers’ love affair with Golf

What do cricketers do when they want a break from the pitch? Simple they just switch fields and play golf.

From the cricket field to the golf course, it is turning out to be a cool transition of sorts as we see, why so many cricketers are taking to golf. Apart from being competitive, this sport is a natural translation of their skill set also.

Here is a list of pro cricketers, who love to go to the greens.

Cricket is unquestionably the most celebrated game in the subcontinent. The first three in our list, are the golfing lovers from the subcontinent.

The 1983 cricket world cup winning captain took up golfing post retirement in 1994 and is today a Senior golfer in the Indian circuit. The Indian captain proved his worth when he finished fifth in the IGU All India Senior golf Championship and qualified for the Asia-Pacific Senior Championship.

Ajit Agarkar.

The former paceman of the Indian cricket team made headlines when he represented India at the world corporate golf challenge.

The master blaster has been keen to learn golf post his retirement and is associated with Kensville golf club in Ahmedabad.

One of the most successful captains in world cricket, Ponting, is a virtual golfing hobbyist. Ponting played with some excellent cricketer-golfers such as Greg Blewett who represented the South Australian amateur team after his first class cricket career ended.

Ian Botham.

This cricketing legend from New Zealand is a golfer too. Nicknamed as beefy, Ian started playing golf at a very young age. The ‘driving’ and ‘short game’ are his favourites and Jack Nicklaus his favourite player .

Kevin Pietersen.
